Tax-free shopping, entertainment & culture takes over 3rd annual event
(Tumon, Guam) With less than a couple days left until the biggest shopping event of the Western Pacific begins, the Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) today announced that nearly 120 vendors will be participating in the third annual Shop Guam Festival.
Showcasing Guam’s tax-free shopping and island activities, Shop Guam features a diverse set of shopping incentives and events that any visitor or local resident can enjoy. The campaign is embedded with in-store events, culinary celebrations, optional tours and cultural activities. Shop Guam starts November 1, 2014 and will run through January 12, 2015.
“GVB is excited to bring back Shop Guam as the holiday season draws near because this annual event brands our island as a shopping paradise with luxury to value shopping and everything in between. We invite everyone to take advantage of the exclusive deals being offered by our event partners,” said GVB Acting General Manager Nate Denight. “We also encourage the community to download our new and improved free mobile shopping guide on Apple and Android devices for a truly interactive shopping experience.”
Mobile App Returns
GVB is bringing back the event’s print and mobile shopping guides in six different languages to encourage and help visitors explore Guam during the festival period. Both guides will be available in English, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese. The Shop Guam app has a new search function for shopping, food, attractions and other listings. It also has the ability to locate vendors closest to the person and allows the user to download data so the app is still functional when no internet connection is available. The mobile app is available for free download on the Apple iOS store and Google Play store.
New Goals
The Shop Guam Festival this year aims to surpass the success of its previous years while targeting at least 200- 250 thousand visitor arrivals during the campaign period.
Shop Guam began in 2012 as a global social media marketing campaign by GVB aimed at creating an interactive shopping experience that highlights Guam as a modern, fashionable, and diverse shopping destination. The first campaign garnered $8.4M worth of media exposure coverage in 120 days.
Following a successful campaign in 2013, the Shop Guam Festival increased media coverage to $8.7M and received recognition from the internationally acclaimed Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA). The campaign was awarded with a distinguished PATA Gold Award for excellence in marketing media.
