Guam Delegation Attends Jata Forum & Fair

(Friday, September 30, 2011; Tumon, Guam) Governor Eddie Baza Calvo led a delegation from Guam to the 2011 Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA). This annual travel fair attracts thousands of travel agents, media representatives and potential visitors.

“Japan is Guam’s largest tourism market and it is important to continue efforts to promote Guam as a safe and satisfying destination,” GVB General Manager Joann G. Camacho said. “The Guam delegation is in Tokyo to share our culture and educate travel agents and potential visitors on the unique qualities our island has to offer them.”

The delegation left Wednesday, September 28, 2011 to join Governor Calvo and participated in a two- day forum at the Tokyo Big Sight Expo Center.

The forum is focused on the recovery of tourism after the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. Despite the decrease in outbound travel for the immediate months following the “3/11” events, the recovery of Japan's outbound market has been achieved. Speakers include the President of JATA and Chairman of the Nippon Travel Agency Akira Kanai, JTB President and CEO Hiromi Tagawa, President of Hankyu Travel International Ichiro Namai and President of H. I. S. Akira Hirabayashi. Speakers are presenting the state of international travel and the need to support the expansion of the outbound market.
