Asu Smokehouse wins “Champion Grillmaster” title again at third annual Guam BBQ Block Party

Estimated 8,000 turn out for block party of the summer!

(Tumon, Guam) With an estimated count of 8,000 island residents, visitors and military service members, the third annual Pleasure Island Guam BBQ Block Party exceeded last year’s turnout as the largest block party of the summer. Event goers were treated to delicious BBQ plates, drinks, desserts, live art, entertainment and other family friendly activities in the heart of Tumon on Saturday, July 18, 2015.

Guam’s unique BBQ styles were on display with a wide variety of cuisines and local delicacies, which included In & Out BBQ, In the Jungle, Ohana Hawaiian BBQ, Lyn’s BBQ Stix II, Beachin’ Shrimp, Mei Mei’s Fruit Fry Ice, 671 Kettle Corn, Marisol Malumay, Luvin Guam, Joaquin Naputi, Jr’s Slushies, Pacific Island Mångge’ Pops and Brewed Awakenings.

Local arts and crafts like Color Guam, Gatbo Clothing, Infinite Charm, Liti Guam, Jarra’s Party To Go, Unggoy Enterprises, Happy Faces by Nikki Torres, Henna Tattoos by Lawasonia Art, as well as live art demonstrations by local artists Myracle Mugol, Lucas Storts and Austin Domingo were featured during Saturday’s event. Additionally, live music and performances by the Mount Carmel Phoenix Stage Band, Love & Håfa Adai, the Pacific Islands Club Pacific Fantasies Dance Group, as well as a Crowns Guam and T-Galleria fashion show were featured at this GVB signature event.

One of the main highlights of the night was the BBQ competition between 9 local and international teams with $4,000 in prize money up for grabs. GVB partnered with the Micronesian Chefs Association for 8 local teams and one international team from Korea to test their grilling and culinary skills in the categories of chicken, pork and beef. The teams included 2014 Champion Grillmasters - Åsu Smokehouse, 2013 Champion Grillmasters - Team Meskla, Barbeque Company, Outrigger Guam Beach Resort, Chef Paul Kerner, the Pacific Islands Club Clashers, Team SeaGrill, Team Hyatt and visiting Korean Chef, Jong-ho Jang and celebrity “Sous Chef” Seung-nam Kwak making up Team Korea. In the end, Asu Smokehouse again came out on top as the “Champion Grillmaster” for 2015.
