8 BBQ TEAMS TO THROW DOWN AT THE 2nd GUAM BBQ BLOCK PARTY

(Tumon, Guam) The Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) announces that 8 local and international teams have been selected to compete during the 2nd Annual Pleasure Island Guam BBQ Block Party on Saturday, July 5, 2014 from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Tumon.
Pacific Grillers, Team Tunu, Chef Taga and Team Outrigger, Team Asu Smokehouse, Chef Mark Curry and Team Pacific Islands Club, Chef Georgii and Team Russia, Chef Lee and Team Korea, as well as the reigning overall Champion Grill Master, Chef Peter Duenas and Team Meskla will compete in three different BBQ categories – Beef, Chicken and Pork. Representatives selected by the Micronesian Chefs Association (MCA) will judge the competition with over $4,000 in prize money and coveted trophies at stake. This savory and delicious BBQ will be available for purchase during the event.
Visitors and island residents are invited to the BBQ cook-off competition and enjoy the free event’s cultural performances and live music. Various food vendors and local goods from artisans will also be featured. Vendors include Sub Zero Guam, Mei Mei's Fruit Fry Ice, 671 Kettle Korn, Le Tasi Bakery, Men & Joy BBQ, Lyn's BBQ Stixx, Marisol, Sea Grill, Beachin’ Shrimp/California Pizza Kitchen (CPK) and Hot Diggety Dog. Additionally, the 7th Guam Art Exhibit (GAX), the Guam International Film Festival, the Hurao Academy and a Guam-brand booth will be highlighted.
“The block party of the summer is sure to be fun for the entire family. We’re look forward to tasting what variations of BBQ our grill masters can come up with and listening and seeing the visual and performing arts on display,” said Acting General Manager Nathan Denight. “On behalf of Lt. Governor Ray Tenorio, the Micronesian Chefs Association and our Pleasure Island partners, GVB invites our local community and visitors to come out and enjoy these festivities.”
To add to the evening’s festivities, world-renowned artist Tristan Eaton will feature a public wall art project during the Saturday block party. His work can be found at tristaneaton.net. Local art developed through the GUMA (Guam Unique Merchandise and Art) Incubator Program will also be showcased and available for purchase.
To ensure the safety of event-goers, San Vitores Road from the crosswalk between UnderWater World and DFS Galleria to the traffic light in front of the entrance to SandCastle will be closed on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. to Sunday, July 6, 2014 at 3:00 a.m.
The Pleasure Island Guam BBQ Block Party is a GVB Signature Event.
